Even if I take medicine, my cheilitis only gets better for a short time. What should I do if it keeps happening?
Every winter, the area around my lips cracks and splits, and I get recurrent cheilitis, which is a real headache.
At first, I thought it was just because my skin was dry, so I just diligently applied lip balm.
But at some point, the border of my lips started to turn red, sting, and develop dead skin cells.
In severe cases, the corners of my lips would tear and it would hurt to speak.
Sometimes, pimples appear around the mouth.
So, since it didn't seem to be just a dryness issue, I went to a dermatologist.
I tried using prescription ointments, tried switching to vegan-certified, gentle lip products, drank a lot of water, and tried to avoid spicy foods when my lips were in bad condition.
Even though it seems to be getting better, if the weather gets dry or my condition drops even a little, it comes back up again.
What I'm particularly concerned about is
Even if you don't touch the dead skin cells on your lips, they keep forming.
Even if you apply lip balm frequently, it doesn't seem to fundamentally improve?
It's quiet for a while, but when the seasons change, it gets really bad in the winter.
The hospital said that dryness and lifestyle habits have a big influence, but honestly, even if I manage it, it keeps happening every year, so I'm confused as to whether it can really be solved with just management.
I tried hospital medication, bepanthen, bepanthene, dipanthenol, and steroid creams, but it got better and then came back again.
Is there any cure for cheilitis?
Now, rather than worrying about dead skin cells and such, what's more painful is that my lips are very, very sore. They sting and feel hot.
Are there any treatments that actually help, including lip balm or ointment?
I would like to ask for advice from those with experience.
For reference, I have both exfoliative and contact cheilitis. In severe cases, I also get perioral cheilitis (a rash around the lips).
