(Question) Symptoms of anemia before menstruation

When I'm about to start my period, I start to feel anemic.
Why is this happening?
It's not like my period is heavy though.
I have a headache. I took an iron supplement just in case and it was fine. Could this be related to my period?
There were no symptoms of anemia to begin with.
