Does hair loss worsen if the treatment touches the scalp?

I am worried because my alopecia areata is getting worse lately. Since there can be various causes, I am looking into the reasons why my hair loss is worsening, and I am concerned that my daily shampooing habits might be contributing to it. When I use conditioner, I apply it to my entire head, including my scalp, and then rinse it off with water; is this the wrong method? Does getting conditioner on the scalp worsen hair loss?
