Effect of hair loss medication

I heard somewhere that urology medications are good for hair loss. Usually, men experience a lot of hair loss, and if you suppress male hormones, your hair can grow a bit. Some people have tried it and seen effects. So, if a woman has hair loss, is it because she doesn't have much male hormone, and would taking that medication be ineffective? When I lose a lot of hair and my crown becomes bald, I wonder if I should really go to a hospital, but hearing about urology makes me tempted.
