A daily life filled with stress ๐ก๐ก... Take a moment to relax with a little hobby โค๏ธโค๏ธ
ย
When we sit at our desk to study for exams, we realize that organizing the desk and cleaning the room are more fun and fulfilling than studying itself. Interestingly, small chores like watering plants and tidying up the desk provide a sense of stability and comfort amidst busy daily life. Moreover, some people say that watching videos of others doing household chores, such as cleaning, helps relieve their stress.
ย
Simple chores gift a sense of relaxation amidst a busy daily life.
ย
In a situation where stress levels worldwide have increased due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the number of people filming and viewers sharing their daily lives through vlogs has significantly increased. Why do people become so enthusiastic about small trivial activities that can make their busy daily lives even busier?
ย
Small pleasures that make you forget your worries
ย
Simply put, a small hobby distracts attention. During busy daily life, we face various worries, from human relationships to workplace issues and financial problems. Although the types, reasons, and outcomes of personal problems differ, countless worries still await us in our daily lives. At such times, a hobby can temporarily refresh a mind filled with these concerns. Researchers at Florida State University studied the impact of a common hobby, dishwashing, on mental health. Before the study, the researchers divided 51 participants into two groups: one group was instructed to focus solely on the act of dishwashing and to concentrate their senses, while the other group was given instructions on how to wash dishes. As a result, participants in the first group, who focused on their senses while washing dishes, reported feeling better; some said their anxiety and tension disappeared, and they found solutions to problems they had been facing. The researchers stated, "Focusing on simple activities like dishwashing seems to refresh and clear a complex mind."
ย
Perceived sense of control
ย
Other experts have stated that people can improve their 'perceived control' by solving small chores. People experience the greatest stress in uncontrollable situations. The reason is that when people feel helpless, their cortisol levels, the stress hormone, increase rapidly, and if helplessness is left unaddressed for a long time, it can negatively affect immune system function, making them more vulnerable to various diseases.
ย
Perceived control reduces cortisol levels and stress responses by inducing the feeling that "I am in control of the situation." Naturally, it is best to appropriately cope with stressful situations. However, even activities that have no actual impact on the stressful situation can help individuals feel a sense of perceived control and reduce stress. The key to perceived control is that, even if a person cannot actually control the situation, it is sufficient that they feel they can.
ย
Dr. Stacey Bedwell of the Institute of Psychiatry at King's College London in the UK explained, "Regardless of whether you actually have control or not, simply believing that you do significantly lowers stress levels."
ย
According to a joint study by Harvard University and Yale University, cleaning and ventilating the surrounding environment can also provide a sense of perceived control. The researchers recruited participants from a nursing home and divided them into two groups. Each group was given a room, and one group was allowed to freely arrange the furniture and decorate the room with plants and other items of their choice. In contrast, the other groupโs rooms were arranged by staff members, and watering the plants was done by staff rather than the participants themselves.
ย
The results were interesting. When the participants were re-encountered after 18 months, the group that took responsibility and decorated their rooms was in much better health than those who did not. Of course, there were many factors to consider, such as physical activity, but Harvard psychology professors Ellen Langer and Judith Rodin, who led the study, stated, "Considering the negative impact of past feelings of helplessness on health, simply feeling a sense of control over one's life can have a positive effect on health."
ย
Hobbies provide various benefits, such as offering a brief moment of relaxation in our busy daily lives. Many experts recommend taking a moment to tidy up your surroundings or engage in small hobbies if you are feeling overwhelmed and busy, as a brief mental break can give you the strength to maintain a healthy daily routine.

Suddenly cold water while doing the dishes after dinner
It came out ๐ฑ๐ฑ I was lying on the living room sofa the whole time.
The older child was just washing their hair without paying any attention to doing the dishes.
They told me to take a shower while wearing pants and only wash my hair, so I only washed my hair.
It seems like I will be able to do it ๐ฑ๐ฑ
If I were the youngest sibling, I would have asked, "Can I use Dad's water?๐ค๐ค"
Thanks to my older child, I'm lying in bed and posting this message haha
The sheep are enormous ๐ฑ๐ฑ
Compared to today's church cleaning, it's just a piece of gum, so I'm angry.
It doesn't work๐คญ๐คญ
I tied up that trash well, so why is it over there? ๐ค๐ค
Throw it away when you leave~~!!! Ugh ๐ฎโ๐จ
There is one more bundle in the trash can, so a total of two!
