Lee Si-eon: "I couldn't digest it, and 'this organ' isn't functioning"... Do I need surgery?

Actor Lee Si-eon's health has been revealed to be in critical condition.

Recently, a video titled "Kian84 Lee Si-eon Health Checkup" was posted on the YouTube channel "Life84." In the video, Lee Si-eon received a health checkup with Kian84. Lee Si-eon told the doctor, "I've been having trouble digesting food lately," and "Every time I get tested, they say I have a lump in my gallbladder."

Lee Si-eon underwent tests such as a brain MRI, abdominal and carotid artery ultrasound, and gastrointestinal and colonoscopy.

During an abdominal ultrasound, Lee Si-eon was told, "The gallbladder is normally surrounded by a thin wall, but it appears thick, which seems a bit problematic." A colonoscopy also revealed multiple abscesses, which Lee Si-eon underwent surgery to remove.

A few days later, Lee Si-eon and Kian84 visited the hospital to hear the test results. The doctor told Lee Si-eon, "Your gallbladder wall is so deformed that it's likely no longer functioning." He added, "If it were me, I wouldn't hesitate to have surgery. I hope you receive proper treatment."

Bile secreted by the liver concentrates and stores bile... helps digest and absorb fat

First, the gallbladder, the area where Lee Si-eon experienced problems, is an elongated, sac-like structure, approximately 7 to 10 centimeters long. Located in the upper right side of the abdomen, beneath the liver, it concentrates and stores bile secreted by the liver, aiding in the digestion and absorption of fat.

The liver produces bile daily by combining components such as cholesterol, fatty acids, bile salts, and bilirubin. The daily production of bile ranges from 500 to 1,200 ml, with the average bile secretion being around 800 ml. Bile is secreted into the duodenum through the bile duct and gallbladder. When we eat, food reaches the duodenum. Bile is then secreted into the duodenum, where it plays a role in fat digestion, cholesterol metabolism, and the elimination of toxic substances.

When gallbladder function declines, symptoms such as indigestion appear.

However, if gallbladder function declines or the bile composition changes, symptoms like Lee Si-eon's can occur. If bile is not secreted sufficiently, fats cannot be properly digested and absorbed. If bile contains too much cholesterol or bile salts, it can harden and form gallstones. Gallstones can detach from the gallbladder and block the hepatic duct, cystic duct, or common bile duct, which connect the liver to the small intestine, causing bile flow to stagnate.

When gallbladder health deteriorates, pain may appear in the epigastrium or upper right abdomen. The pain begins suddenly and gradually subsides over 1 to 6 hours. Once it occurs, it may recur frequently. If accompanied by nausea, vomiting, jaundice, chills, or gray stools, it may indicate complications. If gallbladder dysfunction is suspected, an abdominal ultrasound or CT scan is recommended.

Maintain a healthy weight and avoid high-fat diets and excessive dieting.

Maintaining a healthy weight is also important for gallbladder health. Obese individuals have higher blood cholesterol levels, increasing the risk of gallstones. A balanced diet should include carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals. Excessively high-fat diets should be avoided.

Regular exercise is also essential. Exercise not only helps with weight management, but also stimulates bowel movements and reduces total cholesterol levels in bile. However, extreme dieting that reduces fat intake can lead to cholesterol concentration in bile, increasing the risk of gallstones.
