What is the new disease causing trembling like dancing and making it impossible to walk properly?
[Financial News] A new disease called 'Dingadinga' is spreading in Uganda, Africa, and international health authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
According to the UK Daily Mail on the 15th (local time), a new disease characterized by whole-body trembling has emerged among women and girls in the Bundibugyo district of western Uganda. Named 'Dinga Dinga,' meaning 'trembling as if dancing' in the local language, this disease has affected approximately 300 patients since the first case was reported early last year.
The Bindi Bu District Health Authority announced that there have been no deaths caused by this disease so far.
In this regard, Kiita Christopher Bundibu District Health Officer emphasized, "Most patients are recovering within a week," but also stressed, "Since the exact cause of the illness and transmission route have not been confirmed, if symptoms persist, it is essential to visit a medical facility."
This new infectious disease emerged after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared an international public health emergency (PHEIC) for monkeypox in August last year. Monkeypox originated in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and is spreading across East Africa, including Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda.
The local health authorities recommend formal treatment through medical institutions. They also caution against the use of unscientific folk remedies. In fact, patient Katusime (18), who contracted this disease and recovered, stated, "My body was trembling to the point that walking was difficult, but I was fully cured through treatment at Bundibu General Hospital."
