A Spanish research team analyzed 7,056 adults at high risk for cardiovascular disease. Eighty-two percent of the participants had high blood pressure. The analysis results showed that people who consumed a lot of tomatoes had a 36% lower risk of developing high blood pressure than those who consumed less, and that even moderate daily consumption of tomatoes (44-82g) had the effect of lowering blood pressure.

Reducing sodium intake and increasing potassium intake are lifestyle changes that can lower the risk of high blood pressure.
