Resistant starch helps maintain satiety for longer, suppressing appetite and boosting metabolism, which aids weight loss. Belly fat typically develops when blood sugar levels rise rapidly, but resistant starch is slow to convert to glucose, preventing a rapid spike in blood sugar levels and making it effective for reducing belly fat. In fact, unripe bananas have a low glycemic index (the measure of how quickly carbohydrates in a food raise blood sugar levels) of 30.


Green bananas are also good for your digestive health and may even help prevent cancer. In fact, a study conducted at the University of Brasilia in Brazil found that eating one green banana daily reduced gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhea and constipation and lowered the risk of colon cancer.

Yellow, ripe bananas are good for those with digestive issues. This is because as a banana ripens, resistant starch converts into easily absorbable sugars. Therefore, if you experience digestive issues or bloating, you should eat yellow bananas rather than green ones. Furthermore, as bananas ripen, they become richer in beneficial minerals, including B vitamins, vitamins A and C, iron, magnesium, and potassium. Yellow bananas, in particular, contain more vitamin C, a key antioxidant that eliminates free radicals, than bananas of other colors.

 

Brown bananas boost immunity

 

As yellow bananas ripen further, they develop brown spots (sugar spots), indicating overripeness. These spots act as immune system boosters. Brown bananas are rich in tumor necrosis factor (TNF), which is effective in boosting immunity and fighting cancer. Tumor necrosis factor is a substance that enhances immunity against cancer. In fact, a study by Teikyo University in Japan found that bananas with brown spots were eight times more effective in strengthening white blood cells than green bananas.
