Many people scratch their bodies, complaining of itchiness as the seasons change. Dry weather reduces the skin's surface lipids and natural moisturizing properties, causing itchiness. Is there a solution to dry skin?

 

Dry skin is particularly prevalent in certain areas, primarily the outer arms and shins. Consequently, during seasonal changes, the skin in these areas often turns white and becomes prone to scratching. It can also appear on the abdomen and thighs, where sebaceous glands are less abundant. It can also occasionally appear on the lower back or ankles. This is due to friction created by belts and socks, further drying out the skin.


Dry skin is particularly prevalent in middle-aged and older adults, as aging weakens the skin's ability to regenerate the epidermal barrier. In severe cases, the skin may crack and ooze fluid or even bleed. The causes of dry skin can be broadly divided into internal and external factors.

 

External factors include cold, dry weather, UV exposure, and excessive use of air conditioners and heaters. Internal factors include atopic dermatitis, chronic eczema, genetics, aging, and thyroid disease. If internal factors are the cause, it's recommended to seek medical attention for treatment.

 

If it is not caused by a disease, symptoms can be alleviated simply by improving lifestyle habits.

 

Even if you feel itchy, it is best to avoid scratching as much as possible.

Drink plenty of water and vitamins,

It is recommended to shower once a day for less than 15 minutes.

 

Be careful not to use water that is too hot at this time, as this can damage the stratum corneum of the skin and make itching worse.

Shower with lukewarm water and then apply moisturizer to prevent your skin from drying out. Avoid excessive cooling or heating. Indoor humidity should be around 40-60%. Adjust to maintain .

 

If the symptoms do not improve or worsen, it is best to visit a dermatologist to determine the exact condition and receive treatment. If you have dry skin without a specific cause, itching can be relieved with antihistamines and moisturizers. Be careful, as if severe dry skin is left untreated for a long time, it can lead to secondary bacterial infection and worsen into dermatitis.
