Occasionally, the yolk of a boiled egg has a bluish color similar to gray. This may appear. Can I eat it?

◇'Gray' yolk, a natural chemical reaction

A gray yolk does not pose any health problems. It is a natural chemical reaction that occurs when the yolk is heated. Egg yolks contain iron, and egg whites contain sulfur. This exists. When heated, these two combine to form iron sulfide, which immediately takes on a gray color.

If you want to avoid gray yolks, it's best not to cook your eggs for too long. If you boil an egg for too long, the yolk will likely turn gray. Cooling the egg quickly after boiling can also help prevent yolk discoloration. You can do this by pouring cold water over the egg immediately after boiling or placing it in a bowl of ice water until it cools completely.

◇Must be consumed within a short period of time

Boiled eggs are best eaten as soon as possible after cooking. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), eggs should be refrigerated within two hours of cooking.

This is because the freshness rapidly decreases when left at room temperature. It varies depending on the condition of the refrigerator and the degree of contamination of the eggs, but generally speaking, Boiled eggs can be kept refrigerated for up to 7 days.

Even if refrigerated, there's a risk of spoilage, so food experts advise eating them as soon as possible to ensure safety. If they're spoiled, boiled eggs will smell rotten or have a sticky texture. At this point, they should not be eaten and should be discarded immediately.
