Eating eggs can eliminate worries about 'cognitive decline' in old age... How many should you eat per day?

The research team at the University of California, San Diego, conducted a prospective cohort study called the "Lanchio Bernardo Study" involving middle to upper-middle-class adults residing in Southern California. Using data from this study, which included 890 individuals with an average age of 70.5 years, they examined the relationship between egg consumption and cognitive function.
☆Cognitive function assessment
▲A brief mental status examination that assesses overall cognitive functions such as memory registration, attention, visuospatial construction, recall, language, and calculation.
▲Symbol matching test assessing executive functions such as mental flexibility, attention, and visual-motor tracking
▲The assessment consisted of three parts: a language fluency test measuring verbal fluency and semantic memory, a fluency test where participants listed animals from memory for one minute, and a questionnaire completed by participants to record egg intake, lifestyle habits, and medical history. Gender analysis was conducted considering differences between males and females.
Research findings indicated that the effects of egg consumption on cognitive function differ between men and women. Women who consumed more eggs per week (more than five eggs per week) showed a smaller decline in language fluency over an average of four years. In particular, as egg intake increased, the decline in fluency scores was significantly less. For example, they maintained their ability to list animal names more effectively. Interestingly, egg consumption had little to no impact on cognitive decline in men. This aligns with other research results that found no association between egg intake and cognitive function in men.
The research team stated, "There are limitations such as the relatively short observation period of four years and reliance on self-reported data," but added, "It suggests that eggs may play a role in maintaining cognitive function."
This study was recently published in the international journal 'Nutrients'.
