Is it possible to perform a repeat surgery for cataracts?

My father had cataract surgery a few years ago.

After the surgery, you were extremely satisfied and had no need to visit the ophthalmologist, but over the past few years, your condition seems to have worsened, and recently your father mentioned that he thinks he has developed cataracts again.

Does cataract usually recur? If it recurs, how many years typically pass between occurrences?
