What is the ideal water temperature? It is recommended to drink lukewarm water at around 30 degrees Celsius, slightly lower than body temperature, on an empty stomach in the morning. Drinking cold water can overstimulate the autonomic nervous system and may cause heart issues such as arrhythmia.

 

Additionally, drinking cold water causes our bodies to use unnecessary energy to raise the body temperature back to normal. Especially for the elderly or frail individuals, whose basal metabolic rate is lower, drinking cold water can further decrease body temperature and reduce gastrointestinal blood flow, leading to decreased secretion of digestive juices.


How much water should you drink? There is no strict rule for the amount of water to consume. Some people claim four glasses, but there's no need to insist on drinking a lot of water. You should drink water based on your health condition. Drinking too much water can cause problems such as edema and shortness of breath in patients with end-stage renal failure undergoing dialysis or those with end-stage heart failure, as excess fluid accumulates in the body.

 

Diabetic patients may experience a reduction in meal intake due to a feeling of fullness when drinking a lot of water, which can increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Patients with reflux esophagitis may experience worsening symptoms as the gastroesophageal junction opens frequently. Drink an appropriate amount, more than one glass.

However, when drinking water, you should drink slowly rather than gulping it down quickly.
