Having regular sexual activity can be more beneficial for your heart than you think. To maintain heart health, you may need to be more active in the bedroom.

According to a study published in Scientific Reports, men who have frequent sexual activity are less likely to develop heart disease.

 

Research team at Qingdao University in China analyzed multiple studies involving 17,243 American adults to investigate how sex affects heart health and longevity.

 

Research findings showed that men who have sex less than 12 times a year are at a higher risk of heart disease and early death. Conversely, men who have sex approximately 103 times a year have a lower risk of heart disease and early death. This corresponds to about twice a week. Maintaining a frequency of 52 or more times a year was still found to have health benefits.

 

The researchers explained, "The importance of physical management is important and necessary for everyone, but not everyone associates physical management with sexual activity." They added, "Having sex can increase heart rate, improve blood circulation, and reduce stress, all of which have positive effects on heart health."

 

However, excessive sexual activity may actually have a harmful effect on the heart. The researchers stated, "Having sex more than once a day is too much," and "the fact that sexual activity itself is a form of physical activity and aerobic exercise is often overlooked." They added, "High levels of aerobic exercise can diminish the health benefits observed at moderate levels."
