Although it was scheduled before the disaster, criticism is arising about holding fireworks during the national mourning period that continues until the 4th of next month.
Regarding this controversy, the Seoul Metropolitan Government explained that it was an event prepared by a private company with Seoul city approval, and that the event was unavoidable due to existing reservations.
Hyundai Marine Leisure, which hosted the event, bowed its head and admitted that it made a misjudgment by proceeding with the event despite receiving a cancellation request from the Seoul Metropolitan Government due to the sudden situation.
Kim Jin-man, CEO of Hyundai Marine Leisure, stated, "I sincerely apologize and regret causing controversy by holding this event during a time when everyone is mourning a major disaster."
