According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, there will be two rounds of rainfall this week. First, the rain that started the previous day will continue until the morning of the 26th in Jeju and the southern regions, and until the night in the central regions and North Jeolla. The expected rainfall until the night of the 26th is forecasted to be 20 to 60 mm in Busan, 10 to 40 mm in Gangwon, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam, 5 to 30 mm in the Seoul metropolitan area, Chungcheong, Daegu, Gyeongbuk, and Jeju, and 5 to 20 mm in Honam.
Rain is expected to fall across the country again from the 27th to the morning of the 28th. Heavy rainfall is forecasted to continue until the afternoon of the 28th in Gangwon and Gyeongbuk, and until the night of the 28th in Gyeonggi Southern, Chungcheong, and Honam regions. The expected rainfall from the 27th to the 28th is 5 to 30 mm in the West Sea Five Islands, Chungnam, Jeonbuk, and Jeju; 5 to 20 mm in the Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon, Chungbuk, Gwangju, and Jeonnam; 5 to 10 mm in Gangwon, Gyeongbuk, and Daegu; and around 5 mm in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam.
Starting from the afternoon of the 26th, cold air from the north will descend, bringing snow instead of rain in some areas. In Gangwon Province, snow will accumulate from the afternoon of the 26th, with an expected snowfall of 5 to 20 cm until the 28th. Snow will also fall and accumulate from the night of the 26th in the Seoul metropolitan area, Chungcheong, and Jeonbuk regions. The expected snowfall until the 28th is 3 to 10 cm in the Seoul metropolitan area, 1 to 3 cm in the West Sea Five Islands, 1 to 5 cm in Chungcheong, and 3 to 15 cm in Jeonbuk. Additionally, 5 to 15 cm of snow is expected over Jeju mountainous areas, 5 to 10 cm in Gyeongbuk mountainous areas, 1 to 7 cm in Gyeongbuk and Gyeongnam, 1 to 5 cm in Jeonnam, 1 to 3 cm in Jeonbuk, and about 1 cm in Daegu over the two days of the 27th and 28th.
On the way to work on the 27th, it is expected that moist snow, which is heavily saturated with moisture in the metropolitan area, Chungbuk, eastern Jeonbuk, and northeastern Gyeongbuk mountain regions, will fall at a rate of 1 to 3 centimeters per hour. Moist snow is heavier than regular snow, and if it accumulates on roofs or in greenhouses, it can cause accidents.
Heavy snowfall is expected to continue in the mountainous regions of Gangwon Province and Jeju until the night of the 27th. Rain or snow is forecasted in Chungcheong and Gyeongbuk until the 29th, and in Honam and Jeju until the 30th.
Strong winds are also forecast along with rainfall. Currently, strong wind warnings have been issued for Ongjin in Incheon and the western part of Ulsan, as well as strong wind advisories for most coastal areas, Jeju, inland Jeollanam-do, and western inland Gyeongnam. Strong winds of around 20 meters per second are expected in most areas until the 27th, until the 28th along the Gyeongsang coast, and for the Jeju and West Sea coast for the time being. Mountainous areas will experience even stronger winds with gusts of up to 25 meters per second.
Temperatures will remain at average levels until the daytime of the 26th, then drop sharply from the afternoon. The high temperature on the 26th is expected to be between 7 and 16 degrees Celsius. However, on the 27th, temperatures will fluctuate significantly, with the morning low dropping to minus 4 degrees Celsius and rising to a maximum of 6 degrees Celsius, with daytime highs ranging from 2 to 11 degrees Celsius. Strong winds are expected, making the perceived temperature feel even colder than the forecasted temperatures.
