It's meant to be eaten plain... but you're saying you put 'this' in it to make Greek yogurt sweeter?

Reporter Lee Hae-rim's story

Even when I'm on a diet, there are times when I crave something sweet. Even honey in Greek yogurt is too much, so I usually substitute it with sugar. It's allulose. In fact, if you search "How to enjoy Greek yogurt deliciously" on YouTube, you'll find many recipes adding allulose and fruit pieces to Greek yogurt. It looks like the familiar oligosaccharide syrup, but it feels unfamiliar. Are there any side effects?

Allulose is a rare natural sugar found in foods such as raisins and wheat. . Its sweetness is about 70% of that of sugar, and more than 98% of the ingested amount is excreted without being absorbed by the body. While honey has about 3 kcal per gram, allulose has about 0.3 kcal per gram. Allulose is often used in low-sugar drinks and foods. It is also sold in syrup form. Among commercially available beverages, it is included in Lotte Chilsung Beverage's 'Chilsung Cider Zero' and 'Milkis Zero'.

Research has shown that allulose can help with weight loss when used in sweeteners, as it suppresses blood sugar levels and lipid absorption. However, there is still a possibility of side effects for some people. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns that excessive consumption of allulose may temporarily cause stomach discomfort. There are also domestic experimental results on the side effects of allulose. When the amount of allulose consumed by the participants was gradually increased and side effects were observed, some participants began to experience side effects when they started eating 0.5g/kg (0.5g of allulose per 1kg of body weight). The main symptoms were ▲diarrhea ▲abdominal bloating ▲abdominal pain ▲stomach rumbling.

There is also a fundamental problem that if you use allolose every time you crave something sweet, you will never be able to escape your addiction to sweets.

Even if the sweetener isn't absorbed into the body, the taste-related brain region activates as long as the tongue senses sweetness. The reward system, which creates pleasure and addiction, kicks into gear. The more sugar you consume, the more this system becomes entrenched. Eventually, even moderate sweetness can't satisfy you, leading to even more sugary foods. Because sweetness is more intense when paired with salt, sodium intake can also increase.

It is best to eat anything as sweet as possible. If you absolutely must consume allulose, it's best to limit your intake to no more than 0.4g per kilogram of body weight per day. This is the maximum dosage that no adverse effects were observed in the aforementioned domestic research team experiment.

=============

Allolose was much sweeter than I thought.

I think you can put in just a little bit

Just Greek yogurt with fruit topping

It's okay to eat
