The "Preventing Blood Sugar Rise" Diet: Just Change the Order... Should I Try It?

Stories by reporters Lee Hae-na and Yoon Seung-hyun

Actor Yoo Hae-jin (54) introduced a diet method to prevent blood sugar levels from rising while eating breakfast prepared by actor Cha Seung-won (54).

On the tvN entertainment program "Three Meals a Day Light," which aired on the 18th, Cha Seung-won and Yoo Hae-jin were shown making and eating their own food on Chuja Island. On this day, Cha Seung-won made French toast by soaking bread in egg water and frying it until golden brown.

A fresh salad was also served. It included lettuce, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, and cucumbers from the garden. A generous amount of nuts were added for a rich flavor and texture. A soft-boiled fried egg and mushroom soup were also served.

"Eating vegetables first, then protein, and then carbohydrates prevents blood sugar from rising," said Yoo Hae-jin while eating a salad.

Cha Seung-won nagged Yoo Hae-jin to quit drinking, but he quickly reached for the salad. Yoo Hae-jin emptied the salad bowl and even finished the fried egg in no time.

In fact, eating vegetables before a meal, like Yoo Hae-jin, prevents blood sugar levels from rising and helps with dieting.

This eating pattern is called the "reverse diet." Reverse dieting involves eating fiber, protein, and carbohydrates in that order. According to a Cornell University research team, those who consumed fiber first, then protein and carbohydrates, consumed fewer calories than those who did not. They were also less tempted by fatty or fried foods.

The reverse diet is beneficial for weight loss because it prevents rapid blood sugar spikes and promotes a feeling of fullness quickly. Because fiber takes longer to digest, eating it first prevents a rapid blood sugar spike. A slower blood sugar rise also reduces hunger. Furthermore, vegetables high in fiber require longer chewing to make swallowing easier. The more you chew, the more your satiety center is stimulated. Protein, unlike carbohydrates, is less likely to be converted to fat and contributes to a greater feeling of fullness.

==========

First, vegetables -> protein -> carbohydrates, right?

I tried eating it like that once too,

This isn't easy

I also need to continue healthy habits.

I think it's just maintained ~

    저도 식사를 할 때 가급적 채소 위주의 음식부터 먹고 다른 음식을 먹으려고 노력하고 있어요. 그래야 혈당을 조절할 수 있다고 하네요.
