Sometimes, in the heat, you might order ice cream for delivery. When you open the package, you'll find dry ice inside to keep the ice cream from melting. Don't pick up the dry ice with your bare hands and throw it away in the heat. You risk frostbite.

Dry ice is carbon dioxide cooled to a solid state at minus 78 degrees Celsius. It melts from a solid state into a non-liquid gas, absorbing heat from its surroundings and lowering the temperature. It retains its coldness longer than ice packs and doesn't form liquid upon melting, making it a popular choice for ice cream and other fresh produce delivery.

Direct contact with dry ice can cause a rapid drop in skin temperature, potentially leading to frostbite. Skin is largely composed of the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous fat layers. Damage to the epidermis, the outermost layer, can cause the skin to turn white, become numb, or experience pain. Because the pain is similar to that of a fire, frostbite caused by dry ice is sometimes mistaken for a burn. Damage to the dermis can also lead to swelling or blisters. Damage to blood vessels, along with the dermis, can cause the skin to turn black and even lead to necrosis.

If you have frostbite from touching dry ice, immerse the frostbitten area in water at 39-40 degrees Celsius for about 30 minutes to raise its body temperature. Afterward, wrap the frostbitten area with clean gauze to protect it and seek medical attention. If blisters form, do not burst them. Applying excessive heat to the skin with hot water, a heat pack, or a hair dryer, believing that thawing the frozen skin will relieve the symptoms, can actually worsen the condition.

Never handle dry ice with bare hands. Wrap it in packaging material and use tongs to move it. The gas released around dry ice is carbon dioxide, so it's best not to inhale it. Store dry ice in a well-ventilated area after use and allow it to evaporate naturally.

===================

There's always one in every ice cream cake.

You can never do this with your bare hands.

Because it causes burns

Soak the wound in warm water and go to the hospital quickly.

I need to get treatment.

If you soak it in water, it will bubble.

It's dangerous for children, so we always have to be careful.
