During adolescence, pimples often start to appear on the face. However, these symptoms can persist into adulthood, and sometimes large pimples can occur, leaving scars. The situations and conditions that cause these skin symptoms are diverse. The following describes the diseases that cause pimples and acne, along with detailed symptoms.

Inflammatory skin troubles caused by pores being blocked by keratin or sebum are commonly called acne or pimples, and this is a very common condition that almost everyone has experienced. They mainly occur on areas with many sebaceous glands, such as the face, chest, and back, where sebum clumps or pus accumulate inside hair follicles, sometimes accompanied by inflammation, causing redness and swelling. Although all skin troubles on the face are often called acne, the causes and symptoms may vary slightly, so differentiation may be necessary.

◇ Causes of acne and pimples

1. I am a student. There are red areas around my face, back, and chest, with yellow pimples in the center.

Acne

If inflammatory pimples appear during adolescence, it is likely to be acne.

Acne is an inflammatory skin condition that mainly occurs on the face, chest, and back. The exact cause of acne has not yet been fully identified, but it is known to involve a complex interaction of factors such as the influence of sex hormones, excessive sebum production by the sebaceous glands, hair follicle bacteria, and inflammation caused by acne bacteria.

Acne usually occurs during early adolescence when growth is vigorous and gradually disappears, but it can also suddenly appear in adulthood due to hormonal imbalance, environmental factors, and other causes. Teenage acne occurs more frequently in males, but adult acne occurs about three times more often in females and tends to be concentrated around the chin and mouth area.

When pimples occur, squeezing them yourself increases the likelihood of scars, so it is better to visit a dermatologist for treatment.

2. My scalp and face are oily, and red inflammation has appeared along with dead skin cells.

Seborrheic dermatitis

If oiliness, inflammation, and flakes appear on the scalp and face, seborrheic dermatitis may be suspected.

Seborrheic dermatitis is a type of eczema, a chronic inflammatory skin condition that occurs on the scalp, face, armpits, chest, and groin where sebaceous glands are highly active. Symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis include increased oiliness of the skin, redness, inflammation, itching, scaling, and oozing, and in severe cases, scabbing may occur.

Seborrheic dermatitis on the scalp, especially when it occurs on the scalp, begins with mild symptoms such as dandruff or itching, but over time, hair becomes thinner and gradually progresses to hair loss.

In addition, facial seborrheic dermatitis can cause symptoms such as oozing or scaling on the face when it worsens, leading to extreme stress. Therefore, early and accurate diagnosis and prompt treatment are necessary.

If seborrheic dermatitis is suspected, you can visit a dermatologist for treatment.

3. I developed 5 to 6 itchy pimples clustered together, and squeezing them made it worse.

Folliculitis

If yellowish pustules cluster together and are accompanied by itching, folliculitis may be suspected.

Folliculitis is an infectious disease caused by bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus or by mites. Small pustules measuring 1-4mm appear reddened similar to acne and are accompanied by itching, but unlike acne, no comedones (solidified sebum trapped inside hair follicles) are expelled when squeezed. The inflammation is more severe than acne, and it often occurs in clusters of 5-6 lesions in one area, mainly on the chin, neck, and scalp. Since bacterial infection is the cause, cleanliness is particularly important.

You should be careful because touching or squeezing it with your hands can worsen the symptoms, but some people try to extract it themselves or use acne treatments, which can further aggravate the condition because it looks like acne.

If folliculitis is suspected, you can visit a dermatologist for treatment.

4. Other causes

In addition, skin troubles that appear as pimples include viral skin growths such as flat warts and water warts, as well as eczema, heat rash, skin tags, lipomas, and sebaceous cysts.

◇ Acne and pimples, when are they dangerous?

Acne and pimples themselves are common skin conditions that are difficult to consider as dangerous or warning signs. However, using unverified home remedies to alleviate acne symptoms or improperly squeezing pimples can worsen inflammation and lead to more severe symptoms or scars, so it is advisable to visit a hospital for proper treatment.

Even teenagers like me have difficulty with acne because we are young.

It was really stressful; the causes were various, and so were the symptoms.

There are many different things; please make sure to check which one applies to you.

It is better not to push out as much as possible and to visit the hospital for treatment.

They say it's good.
