Can I sustain a one-food diet for a lifetime?
You may have come across articles and videos with titles like "Lose 10kg in a month just by eating this way." These types of content often recommend a one-food diet, which involves continuously consuming only foods like tomatoes or bananas to limit energy intake. Following this diet recommendation results in a drastically reduced energy intake, allowing for rapid weight loss, and since you only need to eat one type of food without worrying about complicated meal plans, it is relatively easy to practice.
However, there are not many cases of successfully maintaining weight loss. Rapid weight loss is often accompanied by significant muscle loss, which reduces basal metabolic rate, making it easy to regain weight even with a slight increase in food intake. If one could sustain a one-food diet for a lifetime, it might be different, but once the diet ends and normal eating resumes, the likelihood of a rapid yo-yo effect increases significantly.
