“With glue”… Damage to summit marker stone on Mt. Geumjeong
Someone damaged the summit marker stone (pictured) of Godangbong Peak on Mt. Geumjeong in Busan, which is being considered for designation as a national park, by gluing paper onto it.
According to Geumjeong-gu, Busan, on the 14th, a report was received on the morning of the 11th that a marker stone erected at Godangbong Peak, the summit of Mt. Geumjeong at an elevation of 801.5m, had been damaged. The marker stone is engraved with the words "Geumjeongsan Godangbong," but someone glued a yellow piece of paper with the word "Geumjeong" written on it over the word "Godang."
By the time district office staff arrived at the scene around 2 p.m. on the same day, the paper with the writing on it had already been removed. However, it was reported that the color of some of the letters had peeled off due to the adhesive. Since residue such as adhesive remained on the marker stone, the district plans to have a specialized company carry out the removal work.
An official from Geumjeong-gu stated, "It is difficult to identify the culprit as there is no CCTV at the scene," adding, "We are considering requesting a police investigation."
Busan City is proceeding with the process to designate an area of approximately 73,000 square kilometers of Geumjeongsan Mountain as a national park. Geumjeongsan Mountain is home to 1,782 species of living things, including 13 endangered species such as otters and red-bellied hawks, and is Busan's representative mountain featuring 60 natural landscape resources, such as strange rock formations and wetlands, and 105 cultural resources.
I can't believe I did something so ignorant...
