"Stopped taking photos"... Fell to death at Obongsan Mountain in Gyeongju
A man in his 60s, who was taking photos on Obongsan in Seomyeon, Gyeongju City, fell 20 meters and died.
According to the Gyeongbuk Fire Department on the 16th, at around 1:33 PM the previous day, Mr. A (in his 60s) fell 20 meters off a cliff while taking photos at Obongsan (632m) in Cheonchon-ri, Seomyeon, Gyeongju.
The fire department, upon receiving the report, deployed 22 personnel to the scene, rescued Mr. A, and transported him to the hospital in a state of cardiac arrest, but he died.
The rocky outcrop where the accident occurred is a flat rock formation about 20 meters high located at the summit of Obongsan Mountain. It is a popular spot where many hikers seek out the edge of the rock to take photos against the scenic backdrop. Additionally, it has gained fame as a filming location for movies and dramas, attracting many tourists and hikers from across the country.
The police are investigating the exact details of the accident, including witness statements.
