Pulmuone bread food poisoning spreads... Additional infections reported in Sejong and Buan, with over 200 symptomatic individuals

On the 13th, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency reported a recent outbreak of Salmonella infections associated with bread consumption.
It was announced that a total of 4 cases have been confirmed. The total number of symptomatic individuals confirmed is up to 208.
Food poisoning symptoms after consuming bread provided at two group catering facilities in Cheongju and Jincheon, Chungbuk, on the 15th of last month
Patients have been discharged. The bread provided was the "High-Calcium Strawberry Cream Roll Cake" distributed and sold by Pulmuone Foodmice, a subsidiary of Pulmuone.
It was 'High-Calcium Our Wheat Choco Banana Bread.' According to the health authorities' investigation, the same genotype was found in the product and the patients.
Salmonella bacteria have been detected.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced on the 5th that sales of the product have been halted and it has been recalled.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency has identified two additional cases of food poisoning in Sejong and Buan that appear to be highly related to the product. In Sejong City, on the 16th of last month, and in Buan County, Jeonbuk Province, on the 15th of last month, individuals who consumed "high-calcium strawberry cream roll cakes" reported symptoms of food poisoning. As of today, the total number of symptomatic cases is 120 in Cheongju, 35 in Jinchun, 18 in Sejong, and 35 in Buan.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency recently warned that, as temperatures rise, there has been an increase in Salmonella infections. Salmonella infection mainly occurs through the consumption of food contaminated with the bacteria. Undercooked eggs and poultry are the primary sources of transmission. In particular, as in this case, infection can also occur through baked goods that use eggs or cream, so special caution is required.
