Yellow dust covers the area and rain across the country this weekend... next week's temperatures drop sharply
As yellow dust from China flows into the Korean Peninsula, some areas are expected to experience fine dust levels reaching 'bad' levels until the 14th. Over the weekend, rain will fall nationwide, and from next week, cold air from the north is expected to descend, causing a significant drop in temperatures.
A nationwide forecast of rain starting from the 15th is expected, and the deterioration of air quality caused by yellow dust will gradually improve after the weekend.
It is expected that rain will fall across the country this weekend due to the influence of a southern low-pressure system. The rain that began in Jeju Island and the southern regions on the night of the 15th is expected to spread nationwide on the 16th.
From the morning of the 17th, temperatures will drop, and there is a possibility that rain will change to snow in the mountainous regions of Gangwon, eastern Gyeonggi, and some parts of North Chungcheong Province. In particular, heavy snowfall is possible in the Gangwon mountain area until the 17th, and the amount of snowfall may vary depending on temperature changes, the Korea Meteorological Administration explained.
Starting from the 16th, temperatures will be affected by cold air from the north, and a sharp drop in temperature is expected. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the morning temperature in Seoul on the 17th is expected to drop to around 0°C, and in the mountainous regions of Gangwon, it may fall into the sub-zero range. Forecast analyst Kim said, "On the 18th and 19th, temperatures in Seoul could drop to -1°C, and in the mountainous regions of Gangwon to -5°C," adding, "Some areas may see cold wave warnings issued."
Kim Ye-boo, an analysis officer, advised, "Since the impact of yellow dust and fine dust is likely to continue, caution should be exercised during outdoor activities," and "Attention should also be paid to transportation and facility management in preparation for rainfall and temperature drops." She further emphasized, "Since there is a possibility of heavy snowfall in the mountainous areas of Gangwon and some inland regions, continue to monitor additional forecasts."
