It is common to think that wrinkles on the skin indicate the beginning of skin aging. However, this is a result that appears after skin aging has already progressed. If you want to prevent skin aging, it is better to recognize the signs of aging and prepare accordingly. Recognize the signals that your skin is aging.

 

◇ Pillow mark

 

If pillow marks on the face do not disappear for a long time, it is a sign that the skin is aging. This is because the skin's elasticity decreases and its recovery ability diminishes. Young skin in the 20s and 30s is well connected with abundant normal collagen and elastic fibers. However, in the skin of the elderly, collagen fibers are fragmented, and elastic fibers can also be observed to have disappeared. Damaged and abnormal collagen and elastic fibers cause aging of the skin's connective tissue. Therefore, the skin's ability to recover elasticity diminishes, making pillow marks or hand marks feel like they take longer to disappear than before.

◇Wound healing speed

 

Similarly, the healing speed of skin wounds also slows down. When the skin is injured, skin cells begin to divide to fill the damaged tissue. During this process, the damaged skin tissue is regenerated to its original state. However, as we age, the growth rate of skin cells slows down, and naturally, the healing process of wounds also becomes slower. This is why, when older, wounds tend to heal less easily and scars are less likely to fade.

 

No alcohol or cigarettes

 

If you notice signs of aging like those above, you should pay more attention to preventing future skin aging. First, it is best to avoid alcohol and cigarettes, as they are enemies of skin aging. Alcohol depletes moisture in the body and dilates blood vessels in the skin, making the face red and causing dryness.

 

Additionally, it is good to apply moisturizer daily to prevent dry skin and maintain indoor humidity at an appropriate level (40-50%). Consuming antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E, and polyphenols, which reduce oxidative damage caused by reactive oxygen species that accelerate aging, helps slow down the aging process.
