It's embarrassing, but fart while walking!... Good digestion and weight loss?
Of course, it doesn't mean you must fart while walking. Walking at a moderate pace for 20 minutes after dinner to aid digestion can naturally lead to farting, which implies that this phenomenon is beneficial for health.
According to American media outlets such as the New York Post and British daily The Sun, the term "fart walking" appears to have been first used by 70-year-old wellness influencer Merilyn Smith, who posted an article about "fart walking" in March. Since then, "fart walking" has gained popularity on TikTok, and whether it's because of the amusing term or actual personal experiences, it has been widely discussed among many people.
Taking a walk after dinner to get some fresh air is actually very beneficial for digestion. If you feel the need to pass gas because digestion is going well, it's okay to do so. This can be called 'fart walking.' It is claimed that farting during a walk can relieve abdominal bloating and indigestion, help with weight loss, and even reduce the risk of diabetes.
Walking to aid digestion, farting when walking, and the claim that this is beneficial to the body in various ways
After dinner, Merlyn enjoys fart walks and fart strolls, and in a TikTok video, she said, "Doing a 'fart walk' after dinner helps you age gracefully," adding, "Almost every day, my husband and I put on our sneakers about 60 minutes after dinner and go for a 'fart walk.'"
70-year-old Merlyn said, "Because I consume a lot of fiber, I naturally have a lot of gas," and explained, "The main reason I walk to pass gas is that even just a 2-minute walk (usually 10, 15, or 20 minutes) helps reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes." She added that walking aids digestion, produces gas when well-digested, and provides health benefits while walking.
What do experts think? Dr. Chun Tang, a general practitioner and medical director at Pol Molly Medical in the UK, said, "Taking a walk after a meal is a healthy habit. Walking after eating helps move the gastrointestinal tract, promotes digestion, and helps maintain blood sugar levels more stably." It also releases endorphins that improve mood and energize your steps. In fact, the basic benefits of walking have inspired the concept of "fart walking," which can help alleviate abdominal bloating, prevent sudden spikes in blood sugar, and reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Dr. Chun Tang said, "Walking after a meal can help release trapped air and alleviate intestinal gas," and added, "Walking is not the magic key to 'aging gracefully,' but it is certainly good for maintaining health as you age and beneficial for heart health."
☆ How to properly do 'fart walking'?
There is no need to obsess over farting when walking. After a meal, go outside and walk for about 15 to 20 minutes. Especially after overeating, walking is highly recommended. Dr. Matthew Campbell, a sports and exercise medicine specialist at the Cleveland Clinic in the United States, said, "You don't need to walk quickly; a leisurely walk is fine, and even just 15 minutes is better than doing nothing." Since it's after eating, if digestion proceeds well, the gas accumulated in the intestines can be released, so as long as there are not many people passing by and it doesn't cause inconvenience to others, farting while walking is acceptable.
When walking, there may be cases where people hold back due to the smell or sound of farting. If the fart cannot exit the body, some of the accumulated gas in the rectum may pass through the intestinal wall and be reabsorbed into the bloodstream. From there, it can be exhaled through the lungs, releasing odorless gas from the mouth. Ultimately, it is expelled through urine, but a small amount of fart components remains in the blood. If farting becomes too frequent, it may be worth considering other health aspects, but given that healthy people produce about 1 to 4 liters of gas daily and pass gas 14 to 25 times a day, it is important to fart healthily and appropriately according to the time and place without holding back.

Haha, I laughed while reading this.
When I go out for a walk after dinner
Embarrassingly, I make a farting sound every time I walk.
I'm leaving now. But it's a beneficial fart sound.
Especially for someone like me who is in the pre-diabetic stage, it's good news.
