Hello!
These days, many people feel a frequent stinging sensation and swelling in their throat, right?
A few days ago, I started experiencing severe sore throat symptoms, so I tried various methods. I’d like to share my reviews of the sore throat medications and self-care tips that helped me 😊 Please note that this is just my personal experience and should be used as a reference only~
It may vary depending on your condition!
What is pharyngitis?
Sore throat is simply a condition where inflammation occurs inside the throat.
It can also occur when infected with a virus or bacteria, or when you talk too much, or even when you breathe in cold air.
I think I caught it on a day when the weather suddenly got cold and I was walking around without wearing a mask.
Do you have symptoms of sore throat?
My throat feels sore and itchy.
Discomfort or pain when swallowing saliva
A feeling of voice cracking or breaking when speaking
Swelling and warmth inside the throat
Especially, I felt more pain at night, and when I lay down and got up, the tingling sensation in my neck was severe.
What causes pharyngitis?
It's not just a simple cold.
From what I've found, sore throat isn't necessarily caused only by a cold.
Dry indoor air
Fine dust, yellow dust (It's severe these days...)
Viruses like colds and flu
Bacterial infection
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (Attention for those who enjoy late-night snacks!)
I think it's probably due to a dry environment combined with a cold.
What are the types of sore throat medicines? Four kinds.
When I went to the pharmacy, there were quite a few different types of sore throat medicine.
Painkillers, anti-inflammatory drugs, throat lozenges, throat spray, cough medicine, etc...
I had severe throat pain, so I took a spray and painkillers together.
1) Pain relievers and anti-inflammatory drugs: relief of sore throat and fever
2) Troche, spray: local anesthesia
3) Cough expectorant: relieves cough and phlegm
4) Antibiotics: Only when caused by bacterial infection! Must be prescribed by a hospital.
Throat inflammation medication should be chosen based on symptoms, so taking antibiotics indiscriminately is ❌.
Natural recovery is actually better when it's a viral infection!
My personal review of using sore throat medication!
1. Strepsil Troche (Lozenge to suck)
💬 "Just right when swallowing is uncomfortable!"
It contains an anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving ingredient called Flurbiprofen.
Sucking on it, the sore throat slightly subsides after about 10 to 20 minutes.
I ate about three times a day, and there was almost no stomach burden.
It also feels less stinging because it moistens the throat mucosa!
2. Betadine Throat Spray (Spray Type)
💬 "It has a slight metallic taste, but the sterilization effect is definitely there!"
It's a disinfectant sprayed directly into the throat, so at first it's a bit shocking 😂
However, it really works when used for severe swelling and pain.
The disadvantages are that it doesn't taste very good and it can stain clothes if it touches them.
3. Neck and spray (menthol scent)
💬 "It's good when your throat is hoarse~"
It is often used when the throat is hoarse or dry rather than sore throat.
It has a menthol scent, making it refreshing, and it is less irritating.
On days with severe pain, the effect is weak, but it provides a gentle calming sensation!
=> The three items above are the sore throat medications I purchased at the pharmacy.
4 additional self-care tips that are helpful
Drink lukewarm water frequently
2) Humidifier is essential! If not available, hang a wet towel.
3) Avoid hot and spicy foods
4) Keep the mucous membrane moist with throat lozenges or trochees
Actually, just drinking water all day and turning on the humidifier is enough.
My neck pain has significantly decreased. Sometimes it was more effective than medication!
When do you need to go to the hospital?
When sore throat symptoms persist for more than a week
When accompanied by a high fever of over 38 degrees Celsius
When cough or pain worsens despite management
I also went to the hospital some time ago, and they said I had laryngitis caused by reflux esophagitis.
If you have a habit of lying down immediately after eating late-night snacks, be sure to watch out for it!
Final review
Personally, I use Strepsils when I'm in a hurry.
Betadine spray for sterilization
For regular maintenance, 목앤
This way of writing was the best.
These days, the weather is causing a lot of strain on the neck.
I hope everyone drinks warm water frequently and takes good care of their throat 🫶
