There are quite a few young people around me who have diabetes, too.ㅠㅠ
Since you're young, many people think that high blood pressure or diabetes are naturally unlikely.
I think I should have regular check-ups and be well aware of my health condition.
It seems that managing your health from the beginning is important~
The younger you are, the less likely you are to be aware of having hypertension or diabetes. Only 25% of people in their 30s are aware they have hypertension... 43% are aware of diabetes.
More than half of adults in their 20s to 40s are unaware that they have pre-existing chronic conditions that increase the risk of developing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction and stroke.
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency on the 29th, it was found that the younger the age, the lower the proportion of people who are aware that they have pre-existing chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes.
If pre-existing chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes are not properly managed, the risk of developing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction and stroke increases, and complications such as chronic kidney disease, retinopathy, and nerve damage may occur. Therefore, proactive prevention and management are more important than anything else.
However, many adults in their 20s to 40s are unaware that they are patients, leading to delayed treatment and management.
Among patients aged 19 and older diagnosed with hypertension, 7 out of 10 (71.2%) were aware that they had high blood pressure.
Diabetes showed the same pattern. 77.6% of those over 70 were aware of it, but only 43.1% of people in their 30s and 53.3% of people in their 40s were aware of having diabetes.
The problem becomes even more serious when including the pre-stage where lifestyle improvements are needed, even though the patient is not yet diagnosed.
A representative from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency stated, "For adults aged 30 and over, including prediabetes, the prevalence of diabetes reaches 63%, and hypertension is 57.1%," emphasizing, "Those in their 40s and older with high risk factors such as obesity, as well as individuals in their 20s and 30s with risk factors, must undergo regular check-ups and be aware of their blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels."
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency will conduct the "Know Your Vascular Number - Red Circle Campaign" in conjunction with local governments nationwide from the 1st to the 7th of next month to mark the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Management Week.
Each local government considers regional conditions and conducts blood pressure measurements, simple blood tests, education, and health consultations through activities such as operating red circle zones (health booths), health walking events, and inviting experts for health lectures.
Red Circle Campaign promotional content can be viewed on the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency website, the National Health Information Portal, and social media platforms.
