If you suddenly lose weight without reducing your food intake or increasing your physical activity, it could be a sign of a medical condition. What could it be?

 

◇Hyperthyroidism

 

Hyperthyroidism causes an overactive metabolism, leading to rapid weight loss. This hyperactivity means even if you eat enough, your body quickly metabolizes it, resulting in a loss of fat and muscle mass. Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland overproduces hormones, and symptoms include increased appetite, persistent thirst, muscle weakness, and mood swings.

 

◇Diabetes

 

If you're losing weight despite increasing your food intake, you may have type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is a condition in which beta cells are destroyed, preventing insulin production. Without enough insulin, the body cannot use glucose as an energy source, instead burning fat and muscle, leading to weight loss.

◇Inflammatory bowel disease

 

If you experience persistent fatigue and unintentional weight loss, it could be a symptom of inflammatory bowel disease. IBD is a chronic inflammatory condition of the digestive tract, with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis being the most common, causing abdominal pain and diarrhea. Intestinal inflammation prevents the body from absorbing nutrients from food, leading to weight loss and malnutrition. Other symptoms may include bloody stools, fatigue, and rectal bleeding.

 

◇Cancer

 

Loss of appetite and weight loss can be symptoms of various types of cancer, including lung, colon, and pancreatic cancer. Cancer cells consume protein and carbohydrates in the body to grow, which can lead to muscle loss and energy depletion, resulting in weight loss. Cancers of the digestive system, such as stomach cancer, can also impair food digestion and absorption, leading to rapid weight loss.

 

◇Mental health can also be affected

 

Meanwhile, mental health issues, in addition to physical ailments, can also cause unintentional weight loss. Stressful situations can have a variety of physical effects, including loss of appetite, indigestion, sleep disturbances, and stomach cramps. This is because prolonged stress causes hormones like cortisol and adrenaline to accumulate in the body. These physical symptoms can suppress appetite and ultimately lead to weight loss.

      그만큼 줄어 들면 병원부터 가라고 하네요
