Postoperative review of uterine polyp removal at Hanyang University Hospital

In May 2020, I had a uterine polyp removed at the local obstetrics and gynecology clinic I was visiting.

However, the test results showed it was a fibroid, not a polyp.

So I continued with follow-up tests. Our family has a history of cancer, so we get regular check-ups.

A year later, a lump appeared again right where the fibroid was removed.

The doctor was right there, so I think they just thought it was a fibroid and only did follow-up tests.

 

Because the obstetrics and gynecology clinic I used to go to closed down, I transferred to the obstetrics and gynecology department at Hanyang University Hospital nearby.

I went for a check-up, and they said it looks exactly like a polyp and needs to be removed immediately, so they told me to schedule a surgery date.

I realized then that polyps and fibroids are different.

 

Fibroids can be monitored by observing their size over time, but

They say that polyps should be removed immediately upon discovery.

When we perform endoscopy or colonoscopy, we remove polyps immediately if we see them. I heard that the same applies to uterine polyps.

 

The surgery was very simple and finished quickly. The hospitalization was for 2 days and 1 night, and I was discharged on the day of the surgery.

Some people experience severe abdominal pain after inserting the medication to dilate the cervix the day before surgery.

I was scared, but I was okay.

When I went for a follow-up after the surgery, they showed me a picture of the removed polyp and said it was a large polyp. They said it was removed well.
