Brain nerve paralysis is a condition caused by damage to one or more of the 12 pairs of cranial nerves originating from the brain. Cranial nerves connect the brain to various parts of the body and are responsible for sensation, movement, and specific functions, but this system fails to operate normally.

Brain nerve paralysis causes various symptoms depending on the extent and location of the nerve damage. Causes include brainstem stroke, trauma, tumors, infections, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, and hypertension.

Sometimes, improper ear cleaning can lead to facial nerve paralysis. If you develop otitis externa, the inflammation can spread to the surrounding areas, and in the worst case, it can progress to malignant otitis externa, where the infection spreads to the brain.

Malignant external otitis causes ear pain, a feeling of fullness in the ear, hearing loss, and headaches. Additionally, the inflammation can spread to the base of the skull, potentially leading to paralysis of cranial nerves. A characteristic symptom of cranial nerve paralysis is facial nerve paralysis.

Additionally, if the inflammation spreads to the skull, it can cause meningitis or brain abscesses.
