Excessive detection of mold toxins that cause cancer

Mold toxins were detected above the permissible level in corn snacks sold in the market.

On the 14th, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced that the sale of 'Kkomawa Wandang Corn Snacks,' which were found to contain fumonisin, a mold toxin, exceeding the standard limit, will be halted and recalled.

Fumonisin is a water-soluble mold toxin produced from corn and rice. The World Health Organization (WHO) classifies it as a carcinogen.

This snack was manufactured by "Doul Bio Food Agricultural Cooperative," a food manufacturing and processing company located in Gure, Jeollanam-do, and sold by "Hansalim Business Union," a distribution specialist sales company based in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province.

The items subject to recall are products with a manufacturing date marked as October 26, 2024. Fumonisin should not exceed 1mg per kilogram, but 4mg was detected in the product.
