There are people who desperately try to prevent skin wrinkles. Because they are a symbol of aging. However, dangerous aging that even threatens life is easy to neglect. That is vascular aging. Since it is not visible like facial skin, many people do not pay attention to it. In the meantime, blood clots form and blood vessels become blocked, putting lives at risk. It can also leave serious disabilities such as paralysis of the body. Is there any way to slow down vascular aging?

As we age, our skin loses elasticity and physical functions decline, and blood vessels also age. Vascular diseases related to aging mainly occur in the arteries. When cholesterol and other substances accumulate, the arteries become narrowed, causing problems with blood flow. This is arteriosclerosis. Weakening of the blood vessel walls can also lead to aneurysms, which bulge like balloons. Over time, fats and other deposits accumulate, ultimately leading to arteriosclerosis.

When young, blood vessels are clean, but as we age, foreign substances and fats continue to accumulate, causing degeneration of the arterial walls. As the coronary arteries become narrowed and hardened, they eventually become blocked. This leads to angina pectoris, a cardiovascular disease. It is a condition where blood flow to the heart muscle becomes insufficient. If angina is not treated promptly, it can develop into a myocardial infarction, which damages the heart muscle itself. One of the causes of sudden death is myocardial infarction. If symptoms such as chest pain appear, emergency services should be contacted immediately.

Aneurysms are also closely related to vascular aging. They are a disease where a part of the artery enlarges and are associated with arteriosclerosis. Aneurysms occur in the abdominal aorta located in the retroperitoneal space behind the stomach. Because it is a relatively large space, many cases have no symptoms until the aneurysm grows to about the size of an adult fist. When an aneurysm enlarges, it can rupture, leading to bleeding that can be fatal. Usually, people with a normal body type can only notice it if the aneurysm presses on or expands surrounding organs, causing pain. Late detection increases the risk.

☆Onion and bean foods are recommended by the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency as foods good for blood vessels. The quercetin component in onions inhibits the accumulation of fat and cholesterol in blood vessels. It is helpful when consuming meat high in saturated fats. The allicin component helps regulate blood pressure and contributes to the prevention of heart and cerebrovascular diseases. ☆Chromium helps improve carbohydrate metabolism, promotes insulin action, and aids in blood sugar regulation.

 

Whole grains such as brown rice contain a lot of dietary fiber, which helps reduce triglycerides and cholesterol☆. They are also rich in gamma-oryzanol and linoleic acid, which are good for cardiovascular health. The protein in soybeans contains peptides that help prevent and regulate high blood pressure, and their lipid components contribute to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Middle-aged and older individuals, whose blood vessels age more rapidly, need different eating habits than when they were younger. They should reduce foods high in saturated fats such as meat fat, snacks, fried foods, and instant noodles. ☆Exercise that is good for blood pressure regulation and obesity prevention is also important. Changing lifestyle habits can slow down vascular aging.
