I really feel my body giving out as I enter my 40s.

I'm maintaining my diet~

Diet management is not too late even for those in their 50s and 60s

It would be nice if you could do it for me~

Did changing to 'this diet' in your 50s and 60s cause changes in inflammation and blood vessels?

✔️Maintaining a 'healthy diet' from your 40s... preserves mental and physical health even at 70

At this year's American Society for Nutrition (ASN) conference, a paper was presented showing that people who maintained a "good diet" consistently from their 40s are 43% to 84% more likely to preserve mental and physical health in their 70s compared to those who ate a "bad diet." The research team from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health tracked and observed the eating habits and health data of over 107,000 Americans (74,670 women and 36,464 men) over 30 years and reached this conclusion. This study has not yet been published in an academic journal.

The research team stated that a 'good' diet is characterized by a high proportion of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, legumes, unsaturated fats, and low-fat dairy products, while a 'bad' diet includes trans fats (found in processed snacks and bread), sodium (salt), and processed meats (ham, sausages, bacon). The team defined 'healthy aging' as surviving at least until age 70 while maintaining clear cognitive and physical functions and being free from diabetes, heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and cancer.

✔️ Foods good for blood vessels... Contributing to the prevention of inflammation and vascular diseases, supporting the elderly.

The presentation paper above is not new content. The foods included in a good diet are widely known and are commonly consumed by health-conscious people. It can be said that this study reemphasizes the importance of proper nutrition. The fact that those who maintained a healthy diet preserved their health up to 84% more than those who maintained a poor diet is worth reflecting on.

Whole grains, nuts, legumes, and unsaturated fats, which are good for blood vessels, catch the eye. These foods help reduce 'bad' cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides in the blood, preventing hyperlipidemia (dyslipidemia) and vascular diseases. Maintaining a strong blood vessel system is essential for healthy aging. The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency also recommends consuming whole grains, legumes, and similar foods as part of their heart and cerebrovascular disease prevention guidelines.

✔️ Which foods help slow down the oxidation (aging) of internal organs?

Vegetables and fruits contain antioxidant nutrients, phytochemicals, and dietary fiber that help slow down the body's oxidation (aging) process and contribute to cancer prevention. In Korea, many foods involve salting vegetables, which leads to excessive sodium intake. While some salt intake is necessary for health, Korea consumes 2 to 3 times the World Health Organization's (WHO) recommended daily salt intake of 5 grams, increasing the risk of hypertension and stomach cancer. In 2021 alone, there were 29,361 new cases of stomach cancer, ranking second or third among all cancers. In the United States, stomach cancer cases are fewer, and it does not rank in the top ten cancers.

It's never too late to change your diet in your 50s and 60s... 'Eating' is the most important thing.

Harvard research team stated, "Even after considering other factors that affect health such as exercise, smoking and drinking habits, family medical history, and socioeconomic status, the correlation between diet and health in old age was prominent." In particular, women experience a decline in estrogen during menopause, increasing the risk of vascular disease and osteoporosis. Consuming whole grains, legumes, and low-fat dairy products rich in calcium is helpful. Experts emphasize that changing one's diet can be effective even if started in the 50s or 60s. We are living in an era where 95 and 100-year-olds are common. Let's start changing our diet right now.
