Wash immediately when it becomes damp.
Damp towels should be washed immediately. Bathrooms where towels are hung tend to have high temperatures and humidity, which promotes the active growth of mold and other microorganisms. If left damp, bacteria and mold can easily proliferate, and using such towels directly can cause various skin conditions on the face and body.
Complete drying after individual washing
When washing towels, it is best to wash them separately from other laundry. Towels have many loose fibers, and if washed together with other clothes, dust or bacteria from the other laundry can stick between the fibers. Friction can also cause the loose fibers of the towel to come apart easily.
Using too much fabric softener to make towels softer weakens the fibers and reduces their water absorption capacity. After washing, shake the towels immediately to remove excess water and dry them thoroughly. If they do not dry well, use a dryer, dehumidifier, or fan. Bacteria also proliferate easily on towels that are not dried properly.
Use sodium percarbonate if there is a smell
If the smell does not disappear from the towel even after washing and drying, it is likely that bacteria and mold have already formed. In this case, it is good to soak the towel in hot water above 60°C with one spoon of sodium percarbonate for about 20 minutes, then hand wash until the mold disappears and dry it in the sun. The higher the temperature, the greater the sterilization effect. However, if using a detergent containing bleach, it is better to set the water temperature to 40°C.
Mix one spoon of vinegar or baking soda during laundry, or alternatively, boil only the towels.
Do not hang multiple sheets overlapping each other.
The way you hang towels is also important. Sometimes multiple towels are used at once and hung overlapping, but this is not good. Moisture accumulates and bacteria can reproduce more easily. When hanging towels, they should be spread out well to ensure good ventilation, and only one towel should be hung at a time.
Meanwhile, many people use a towel for several years, but towels also have a lifespan. The recommended usage period is 1 to 2 years. Using it for too long can damage the fibers of the towel and may actually irritate the skin.
