What do you think about middle school students dating?

I have a second-year middle school son. Before, he casually dated girlfriends and repeatedly broke up, and I never thought of opposing his romantic relationships.

But this time, it's very different from usual. Should I say it's serious?

I'm currently away from home preparing for the Youth Sports Festival and during the competition period, but I really miss my girlfriend and want to go to school. My girlfriend also said she cried yesterday during a phone call because she missed me, which I found quite absurd. I just wish we could stay as casual friends, but I guess that's my mom's wish.
