- Fruits: Apples, pears, bananas, oranges, etc., are low in purines and rich in antioxidants, which is beneficial. In particular, cherries and strawberries can help lower uric acid levels.
- Whole grains: Brown rice, oatmeal, quinoa, etc., are rich in fiber and low in purines, making them suitable for a healthy diet.
- Low-fat dairy products: Low-fat milk, yogurt, cheese, etc. help manage gout and provide calcium and protein.
- Water: Drinking about 2 to 3 liters of water daily is good because adequate hydration helps eliminate uric acid.
Gout diet - foods to avoid
- Red meat: Beef, lamb, pork, etc., contain high levels of purines, which can raise uric acid levels.
- Seafood: It is advisable to avoid seafood such as shrimp, clams, anchovies, and oysters because they contain high levels of purines.
- Organ meats: Liver, kidneys, and other organ meats contain high levels of purines, which can worsen gout symptoms.
- Alcohol: Beverages like beer in particular should be avoided as they can increase uric acid levels.
- Foods high in sugar: Processed foods, carbonated drinks, and other foods with high sugar content can worsen inflammation.
In gout management, food choices are very important. By consuming good foods and avoiding bad foods, you can reduce symptoms and maintain health. Remember that in addition to gout-friendly foods, proper exercise and weight management can also help in managing gout!
