Can benign prostatic hyperplasia be cured?

I have been visiting the urology department for the past two years. The diagnosis is benign prostatic hyperplasia. After about three months of treatment, my symptoms disappeared, so I stopped the medication. However, after about a month, the symptoms reappeared. I asked the doctor, and he said that it could recur again in winter and advised me to continue treatment consistently. Some acquaintances have had surgery to fix it, but the doctor did not recommend surgery. I also do not want to undergo surgery, so I haven't asked about it. How long do I have to keep taking the medication?
