Does cataract always require surgery?

Recently, I received a call from my mother.

My eyes are cloudy and my eyelids are also very swollen, so I went to the ophthalmologist and was told I have cataracts and was advised to have surgery.

My mother is 82 years old, and I am wondering whether it is better to proceed with surgery quickly or if we can wait a little longer and observe.

Is there no other way besides surgery for cataracts?

Is it okay to have surgery in the summer?

저희 엄마도 백내장 수술 지금 7년 넘게 진단받고도 수술안하고 계시는데요... 불편한 건 맞는데 백내장 수술로 은근 호불호가 갈리더라구요. 수술이 잘되어서 정말 심봉사 개안한거 같다는 분도 계시고 외려 더 침침하고 비문증이 심해지거나 안구건조증이 심해져서 고생하는 분도 있구요. 병원치료라는 것이 정말 안타깝지만 잘되는 사람도 있고 안되는 사람도 있다보니.... 우선은 백내장 전문 병원에서 진료 한번 더 받아보시고 결정하시는 걸 권해드리구요. 연세가 있으시니 불편함이 어느 정도 인지 감안하셔서 잘 선택하시길 바래요. 노인분들에겐 간단한 수술도 은근 어려움이 많더라구요. 가지고 있는 지병이나 먹고 있는 약도 잘 고려해야 하고요. 저희 엄마 상담받을 때 계절은 상관없다고 하셨던걸로 기억해요.
