(Question) Do benign breast calcifications require a breast ultrasound examination?

I received the breast cancer screening form I had in December of last year yesterday.

I knew it was dense breast tissue, but I received a report indicating benign calcifications in the contralateral (opposite side) breast.

They say that the examination is insufficient with only the angiography and recommend a breast ultrasound.

Today, I came to the office and was told that even if I get a breast ultrasound, there is ultimately no abnormality, so I probably don't need to undergo the ultrasound. However, feeling uneasy, I also looked things up on the internet.

Dense breasts and benign calcifications are said to be common among women.

Calcium deposits accumulate in breast tissue, causing the tissue to appear small and white on mammograms. Usually, there are no symptoms, and it is typically discovered during routine health screenings.

Usually, there are no symptoms and it cannot be felt. Therefore, it is often discovered during health check-ups.

 

✅Diagnosis

Microcalcifications are not easily visible on breast ultrasound, so a mammogram must be performed to detect them. When tiny calcifications are densely clustered in one area, there is a possibility of cancer. In such cases, a tissue biopsy should be conducted to confirm whether it is cancer. When diagnosing breast cancer, both breast ultrasound and mammography are performed together.

 

 

Benign calcification usually has no symptoms and cannot be felt, so suddenly I feel a jolt in my chest..

Is it true that many cases are discovered during health check-ups?

Has anyone undergone follow-up observation or treatment for benign calcification, or has anyone gone to the hospital for a breast ultrasound due to such a case?

The office staff say it's okay and that I don't need to go, but should I still get a breast ultrasound exam?

 

Breast ultrasound examination in the breast surgery department was done five years ago, and I was fine at that time. I had a mammogram during my health checkup last December.
