I had a uterine polyp removal surgery at Daegu Women's Children's Hospital!
A uterine polyp was discovered after the prenatal examination, which could interfere with the pregnancy.
They recommend removing it.
What is a polyp?
It refers to normal tissue that proliferates excessively and protrudes in a wart-like shape, also called a polyp haha.
It's different from a fibroid!
A fibroid is a tumor formed by an excessive proliferation of part of the muscle layer in muscle tissue, resulting in a lump.
Both can cause infertility, so it's better to remove them when preparing for pregnancy~~
Polyps like this can interfere with sperm implantation, which may lead to infertility.
So, I decided to undergo removal surgery!
I had preoperative tests on June 26.
Basic examinations for surgery, such as blood tests, urine tests, X-rays, and electrocardiograms, were performed.
And they said to have the surgery right after my period ends.
I think my period will end around July 1st, so I scheduled it for Saturday, July 1st.
There are two methods for removing uterine polyps: dilation and curettage and hysteroscopy. Hysteroscopy is said to have fewer side effects!
I scheduled a hysteroscopy surgery.
The nurse kindly informed me of the pre-surgery precautions.
The surgery is usually a simple procedure that takes about 10 to 30 minutes.
I thought it was really simple until this point, haha ^^
So I thought it wouldn't hurt.
Since the cervix needs to be dilated 4 hours before surgery, the surgery is scheduled for 12:30, but I was told to come 4 hours earlier.
I arrived by 8 a.m. on July 1st for surgery and waited for the doctor to see me.
I was the first to go in for treatment.
You explained how you would do it before, but you explained it again.
And they inserted medication to dilate the uterus inside the vagina.
It was really, really painful at that time.
This medicine is about the size of a cotton swab, but as it gradually absorbs water, it enlarges to about finger thickness and is said to help dilate the cervix.
It was as painful as menstrual cramps to dilate the cervix for 4 hours. 😢
Both the patient and the guardian must undergo a COVID-19 test to be admitted.
The day before, I had a COVID-19 test, but my husband didn't get tested, so he only took the test at the hospital.
And I received the admission process and was lying in the hospital room.
The medication to dilate the cervix was so painful that I started sweating and felt like I was going to vomit.
So, the nurse administered the painkiller via an injection into the buttock.
So, it was okay after some time.
The nurse marked a dot on my forearm to check for antibiotic allergy after administering painkillers and antibiotics.
This was also painful, but in fact, the medication to dilate the cervix was more painful.
And they confirmed that there was no antibiotic allergy and administered antibiotics and IV fluids.
The antibiotic injection was also really thick and hurtㅠㅠㅠ
Then I went in for surgery at 12:30.
I had posterior anesthesia, which is a deeper anesthesia than sleep anesthesia.
I used something like an oxygen mask and tied both arms to perform surgery.
1, 2, 3, I fell asleep immediately, and the surgery was over in an instant.
Around the time when the anesthesia was gradually wearing off after the surgery, I experienced very severe pain in my abdomenㅠㅠㅠ
My stomach hurt so much, as much as the maximum level of menstrual pain.
So I told the nurse that it hurts too much, and she said that the painkiller injection is already being administered through the IV.
The painkiller injection took effect after an hour, and I finally felt better...
I wondered to myself how painful childbirth would be...
Mothers are amazing...
I received supplements, painkillers, and IV fluids, and was discharged around 4 o'clock.
The doctor showed my husband that this is a polyp, haha.
My husband took the picture and sent it to me, haha.
I was probably nervous because of anesthesia and surgery, so I took a shower and slept for about 4 hours right after. Haha
When I woke up, the pain like menstrual cramps had gotten better.
My stomach was so bloated with gas that moving was painfully difficult.
My nurse friend said it's because I had surgery with a hysteroscope.
I had such a severe stomachache that I only ate a little bit of rice that day.
I still have some stomach gas and it hurts a bit until the next day, Sunday.
I'm okay now on Monday. The bleeding has decreased haha.
It seems the removal of the uterine polyp was successful.
I'm going for another check-up on July 10th to see if the uterine polyp was successfully removed.
The doctor said I can start trying to have a baby after a month from the surgery.
Waiting for a cute baby! Haha
Thank you for reading the long message.
