I had root canal treatment for a cavity and received a zirconia crown.
This was my first time receiving root canal treatment, and it was also my first time getting a crown. After researching a lot, I decided on a zirconia crown and received the treatment.
One day, while I was eating, I felt something chewing in my mouth and when I looked, it was a tooth...😳
It was a broken molar with a cavity.
If you ask me how I left it until it got like that... I didn't know because there was no pain or numbness at allㅠㅠ
At the dentist, they tapped my molars with an instrument and asked if it hurt, and yes, it didn't hurt.
My lower molars were so bad that I couldn't see them well even in the mirror.
I briefly thought that if I had been sick, I might have found it early and not have had to go to root canal treatment.
Go straight to the dentist First, I had my cavity treated and then I received follow-up treatment and listened to an explanation while looking at photos.
Since it was a place that had already been filled once before, the cavity and filling were removed, so it was empty.
When treating cavities, if they are not severe, resin, amalgam, or inlay are used, and if the tooth cannot be saved, crown treatment is performed.
The dentist looked at it and said that the fracture was larger than expected and that I would need to get a root canal treatment and crown right away.
A crown is a prosthesis made in the shape of a tooth and placed on a tooth.
This was my first time getting a root canal treatment, so I was really nervous, but of course I didn't feel anything after the anesthesia wore off, and it didn't hurt at all when the anesthesia wore off..!
People say that they feel a sharp pain when they get a root canal treatment, but I really didn't feel any pain.
Wow, I said it didn't hurt at all, but when I looked in the mirror, half of my wisdom tooth had blown out.
I didn't know my teeth would be this precious haha. Everyone, please brush your teeth diligently.
And at the dentist, they explained the crown materials such as gold, silver, ceramic, and zirconia and the cost, and told me to decide by the next visit.
The price was naturally the highest for gold teeth. The price of gold has risen considerably recently.
Since this was my first time getting a crown, I searched the internet for reviews and it seems like the trend these days is mostly zirconia!
While gold and silver are strong, they have the disadvantage of being less aesthetically pleasing. Zirconia, while less strong, has the advantage of being sufficiently strong and matching the color of teeth. It's also slightly cheaper than gold.
Personally, I didn't like the color of my gold teeth to stand out, so I decided on zirconia.
During the second visit, a mold is taken to place a crown prosthesis once the cavity treatment is complete.
The dental clinic I go to sends all the photos of the treatment via text message, and I think this photo was taken when I got the first impression.
After the mold is taken, a temporary tooth is attached to the empty space until the zirconia crown is made.
The temporary teeth were left on for a week until my next visit.
I was careful to brush my teeth in case the temporary tooth fell out, and I ate food facing the wrong direction for a week.
And when you visit the dentist again after a week, the completed fake teeth will have arrived.
Now, we will remove the temporary tooth and place the zirconia crown on the tooth.
Next, check if the upper and lower teeth bite well and if the occlusion is correct.
If the height of the teeth next to it is slightly different, they may be ground.
Even on the X-ray, it was confirmed that the crown was properly placed.
Once the 3D scanner screen confirms there are no abnormalities, the cavity treatment is finally complete! (That green color is a stable color.)
Before / After
Doesn't it look really cool like this?
Zirconia is exactly the same color as your teeth. It's not noticeable.
At first, the sensation felt so smooth on my tongue that it felt awkward, but as time passed, I didn't feel anything anymore.
It's not that white now, but it's become similar in color to the teeth next to it. Haha
It took about a month to completely complete the cavity treatment, including root canal treatment, temporary tooth attachment, crown fabrication, and crown placement. I went once a week, so I think I went about four times.
Because of the crown, the cavity treatment period took quite a long time.
They tell me to brush my teeth well even when I have a zirconia crown, so I always brush that area diligently.
I hope this article will be of some help to those who are about to undergo crown treatment for cavities.
