AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine banned from sale in Europe starting the 7th

AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine will be discontinued in Europe from the 7th (local time) following a decision by the European Commission.

According to US media Voz Media, the European Commission announced in a resolution on the 6th that it would revoke the marketing authorization for the pharmaceutical product Zeptria-COVID-19 vaccine (ChAdOx1-S), granted by decision C(2021) 698 (final) on January 29, 2021, at the request of the holder.

This measure follows AstraZeneca's acknowledgment in a UK court that the vaccine can cause a fatal side effect related to blood clotting.

This pharmaceutical company based in Cambridge acknowledged in legal documents submitted to the High Court of the United Kingdom that its vaccine can "very rarely" cause TTS (thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome).
