Some people believe that sweating a lot during exercise will enhance the workout's effectiveness. However, in reality, sweating does not increase the benefits of exercise. On the contrary, for individuals with certain medical conditions, excessive sweating can be dangerous.

 

◇Sweat, role in releasing moisture and lowering body temperature

 

Sweating a lot does not necessarily mean that the exercise is more effective. Sweat helps to lower body temperature by evaporating moisture when the body temperature rises during exercise. The more you sweat, the more waste products and bodily fluids are expelled, but it does not significantly enhance the effects of dieting. While you may temporarily lose weight after sweating heavily, drinking plenty of water will restore it to the original weight. This is because it is not fat burning but water loss. Furthermore, even with the same exercise, the amount of sweat varies from person to person, and the weight loss effect depends more on the calories burned through the type and intensity of exercise rather than on sweating itself.


◇ The risk of dehydration may actually increase

 

Excessive sweating can actually cause side effects. Exercises that cause heavy sweating can put stress not only on joints and the musculoskeletal system but also on the heart and vascular system. Moreover, excessive sweating lowers sodium and electrolyte levels, leading to dehydration and reduced exercise efficiency. Losing 3-4% of body weight in water decreases physical activity capacity, reducing long-distance aerobic endurance by 20-30%.

 

When sweat loss reaches 5-6% of body weight, it becomes difficult to regulate body temperature, and both pulse and respiration rates increase. People with high blood pressure or cardiovascular issues are also at risk of fainting due to dehydration symptoms.

 

It is especially dangerous to exercise while wearing a sweat suit just to sweat more. Sweat suits are similar to exercising in hot and humid weather.

Create an environment. Therefore, reduce the use of fat and increase the use of carbohydrates. Lactic acid produced within the muscles is not easily discharged, leading to a quick sense of fatigue. If sweat does not evaporate and body temperature rises rapidly, it can lead to heat shock and even death.

 

◇During moderate-intensity exercise, you should frequently drink water.

 

Therefore, it is recommended to engage in moderate-intensity exercise that causes sweating appropriately during workouts. Additionally, drinking 120 to 150 mL of water every 10 to 15 minutes during exercise is important. Furthermore, it is advised to wear lightweight, breathable functional clothing made of ventilated materials rather than sweat suits when exercising. Before aerobic exercise, it is beneficial to perform warm-up exercises, and after exercising, it is essential to do cool-down exercises for about 5 to 10 minutes to sufficiently cool down and relax the body.

    땀흘려서 몸이 개운한건 겨울을 생각나게 하는것 같네요
    그냥 있어도 땀이 폭포수인데 굳이 일부러 땀을 흘리는 계절에 해당되는건 아닌것 같애요
    운동도 중강도 운동에서 물을 자주 마셔줘야 한다니

    그렇군요 운동 할 때 땀 많이흘리면 
    살도 뭔가 더 잘 빠질것 같은 자기만의 위로를 하고 있었는데
    사람마다 차이는 있나봅니다 
    지방이 빠지는게 아니라 수분이 빠지는거군요 
    탈수위험때문에 유산소 운동능력도 30%씩이나 감소하다니..
    물을 많이 먹어주면서 중강도 운동을 해야겟네요 
    물병을 하나 사서 들고 나가야겠어요;;
    밖에서 러닝하다 쓰러질뻔하고 요새는 집에서 홈트로 대체했는데
    차라리 홈트로 하는게 더 나을수도 있겠단 생각도 드네요
