"Avoid sour-tasting foods"... Foods you shouldn't eat when drinking coffee

1. Citrus fruits

Consuming acidic coffee along with citrus fruits, which are also acidic, can cause digestive discomfort. Eating foods with high acidity can lead to gastroesophageal reflux disease, resulting in unpleasant symptoms such as nausea, abdominal bloating, and heartburn. When coffee and citrus fruits are consumed together, they can irritate the stomach lining and worsen these symptoms. Additionally, the sharp, tangy taste of citrus can make the flavor of coffee seem more bitter. To properly enjoy each flavor and reduce discomfort in the digestive system, it is recommended to consume coffee and citrus fruits separately.

Red meat

Research has shown that coffee interferes with the absorption of nutrients in the intestines, especially iron. Red meat is one of the foods rich in heme iron, and consuming it together with coffee may reduce its health benefits. According to a study examining the effect of coffee on serum ferritin levels (a measure of iron accumulation in the body), drinking three or more cups of coffee daily significantly decreases iron levels. In fact, iron absorption after meals was reduced by approximately 39% after drinking coffee. Iron plays several vital roles in the body, including supporting blood circulation, hormone production, and immune function.

3. Fried foods

Research has shown that increased coffee intake may raise the risk of dyslipidemia, characterized by excessive levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. According to studies, drinking three or more cups of coffee a day can increase LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) and decrease HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol), potentially negatively affecting heart health. Eating fried foods frequently is also known to increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, so for those who drink coffee often, it is advisable to limit fried foods to maintain heart health.

4. Foods high in sodium content

Coffee contains biologically active compounds that directly affect blood pressure. According to research, drinking 1 to 3 cups of coffee a day does not appear to have a negative impact on blood pressure, but excessive caffeine intake may worsen hypertension.

It has been proven through various studies that sodium intake has a direct correlation with blood pressure. Therefore, it is wise to be cautious when consuming foods high in sodium, especially regarding coffee intake. The American Heart Association recommends that daily sodium intake should not exceed 2,300 mg.
