Whooping cough symptoms and prevention

Whooping cough is classified as a second-class legally notifiable infectious disease and is sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity, occurring mostly in summer. According to the Infectious Disease Statistics from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, as of July 8th this year, the total number of patients nationwide was 6,842, the highest in the past ten years.

In particular, for children and adolescents, who are highly susceptible to outbreaks and contagious, it is important to refrain from attending daycare or school if symptoms are suspected and to seek prompt medical attention.

The symptoms initially resemble a common cold, with mild cough and runny nose, and then over the course of 2 to 4 weeks, there is a characteristic progression to severe coughing, paroxysmal coughing, and a 'whooping' sound when inhaling.

Prevention is necessary.

100-day pertussis vaccine immunization

Wash hands with soap under running water for at least 30 seconds

Cover your mouth and nose with tissue or clothing sleeves.

Ventilate frequently indoors

☆Do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands

If you have a cough, you should wear a mask and follow preventive measures such as consulting a medical institution.

These days, the number of whooping cough patients has increased significantly, so we need to be careful with children.
