Etiquette to Follow When Hiking for More Than One Night

Etiquette to Follow When Hiking for More Than One Night

When going with others, you have to share the load.

Whether sleeping at a national park shelter or backpacking, there are luggage and food that occur officially. Even if instant rice and isobutane gas are sold at the shelter, there are always belongings that need to be brought along. During the preparation process, check how much shared gear there is, as well as the meal plan, including personal and communal food, so that even beginners can share the load a little. For beginners, it is recommended to carry lightweight items that are bulky but light, like ramen.

A slightly spacious backpack needed |

The rental of blankets at shelters has been discontinued, so sleeping bags have become essential. Bringing a 20-30 liter daypack leaves no extra space for additional gear. Before starting the hike, when finalizing your packing, heavy items should be divided and placed into different backpacks. Overstuffing a small backpack to the point of bursting may not be spoken about directly, but it will mark you as an inconsiderate person.

Water, the heaviest but most important |

Water is life in the mountains. Sometimes, water is needed for communal meals and cooking. To everyone, water is a heavy burden. It must be shared and carried, even a little. To reduce the weight of their own backpacks, hikers bring less water, but if they run out early during the hike and have to drink others' water, it causes a big problem. If they prepare water suited to their needs but share it with others, their safety during hikes lasting more than one night can be compromised.

❹ Clothing and Equipment |

Going to a high-altitude area, wearing shorts because it's hot, or wearing sneakers for a long hike over 20 km can be uncomfortable. You might think only you will suffer, but your companions also keep worrying, making it hard to focus on the hike. For overnight or longer hikes, beginners should have their gear checked in advance by someone with more experience or ask, "This is the equipment I have, is it okay?"

Music is to me, noise to others |

Playing loud music or radio during a hike can be noise to others. When visiting the mountains, many people seek to escape city noise, listen to the sounds of nature, and relax in a quiet environment. If you want to play music while eating at the campsite, it is polite to ask for the consent of your companions.
