Is varicose veins hereditary?

My biological mother had surgery for varicose veins. When my sister and I look at our legs, we can see blue veins that look like blood vessels. Recently, my sister said her legs hurt when she sleeps and it's hard to walk, so we went to the hospital and they said she needs surgery.

I also feel like my legs are sore for no reasonㅠ Is genetic factor a major cause of varicose veins?
